The Abbey of Our Lady in Middelburg is a 16th century building. Originaly belonging to the Norbertine order, in 1574 the abbey was secularized and became the seat of the provincial administration and the Admiralty, with a canon foundry being constructed within the precinct. The buildings were almost completely destroyed during World War II, but has since been carefuly rebuilt. They now house the Roosevelt Study Center, the Zeeland Mint, and the Zeeland Provinical Government.
