The Stadhuis, or Town Hall, in Maastricht is an impressive building which dates back to 1664. It was designed by Pieter Post, in a typical grand 17th century Dutch style. The building has two staircases – apparently so that the rival rulers of Liege and Brabant would not have to argue about who would enter the building first. The tower features a carillon of 43 bells, and inside the town hall are some fine chimney pieces and several tapestries.
