The Noordermolen was built in 1888 to replace an older mill that had been destroyed in a fire earlier that year. The mill was built by mill-maker J. Lubsen from Ostfriesland. Originally, the mill served the Waterboard Noordpolder – a 176 hectare area of land. The mill was in a state of disrepair when it was decommissioned in 1976, and restoration work began in 1980. The Noordermolen is open to the public by appointment only.
