The museum Route Aldfaerserf is a collection of villages near Makkum which have been converted into open-air museums. The Villages are Exmorra, Allingawier, Ferwoude and Piaam. They are all working villages which show how life was in the Frisian area in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The villages contain restored, working bakeries, carpenters shops and other craft workshops. The route to cover all the villages is around 25Km in length, and can easily be covered by car or bicycle.
