Muiderslot is one of the country’s most visited castles. Located in the town of Muiden, it is an imposing red-bricked building with impressive towers and a moat. Muiderslot was constructed in the 13th century by Count Floris V of Holland, but it has been rebuilt and remodelled several times, most recently during World War II, when the interior was redone in 17th century style in honour of the poet Pieter Hooft, who lived here from 1609 to 1647.
