The Marker Museum is a small museum devoted to the history of Marken, a town which was once an island in the Zuider Zee, but has now become a part of the mainland. The museum traces the history of the former island, and includes some houses which have been preserved in the traditional style, depicting how a Marker fishing family would have lived. The museum is staffed by people wearing traditional Marken dress, and some of the houses on the water front are still raised up on stilts, however these have been panelled over for safety reasons.
