The Klikjesmolen is a relatively modern polder mill located on Broerdijk in the town of Oostwoud. was built in 1987 to manage the Klikjespolder. Windmills have had a place in Dutch history for several centuries, and mills such as the Klikjesmolen are used to pump water away from flat areas of land, preventing flooding, and reclaiming large areas of inhabitable land that would otherwise be covered with sea water. The Klikjesmolen is owned by the West Frisian Mill Foundation.
