The De Hoop Mill was built in 1835, and ran on wind power alone for more than 60 years. In the late 19th century, the mill had an oil motor fitted, and in 1924 this was replaced by an electric motor. In 1935, the mill was closed down, and it stood idle for more than 50 years. In 1991, a restoration project was started by millmaker Wintel Denekamp. Today, the mill is in working order, and is open to visitors five days a week.
