The Besthmenermolen was built in 1862, and is a very interesting belt mill. The mill has a raised earthen wall around the outside, which the miller can use to operate the wicks, and the flank of the mill. The Besthmenermolen was in active use until the late 20th centuries, when it entered a period of decline. In 1977, the town of Ommen bought the mill, and began some restoration work. Today, the mill houses an information centre devoted to the local environment, nature, and recreation.
