The Berkmeermolen was built in 1608 to serve the 225 hectare Beerkmeer polder. The mill originally worked in partnership with the neighbouring Veenhuizermolen. The duties of the mill were taken over by a steam powered pump in 1877. During the Second World War, the Berkmeermolen suffered heavy damage. After the war, the mill was restored, to working order, and put back into regular use. The Berkmeermolen is open to the public, and tours are available upon request.
