The Shepherd Mill was built in 1844 to replace an older mill that had been struck by lightning, and subsequently destroyed, the previous year. The saw mill was converted to use electricity in 1926, and was decommissioned in 1941. The Dutch Mill Association restored the mill in 1998, and it can now be ran using wind power. The Shepherd Mill is open to the public, with guided tours of the mill available upon request.
