The Rat Mill is an historic corn mill located on Sneekerpad in the town of IJIst. The mill was built in 1828, and was originally called ’The Walrot’ , (or, ’The Water’). The mill was in active commercial use until 1955, when it was sold to the town for the price of 3,000 guilders. The town began a 20-year long restoration project, and in 1978, the mill was officially re-opened. The Rat Mill is now open to the public three days a week during the summer months.
