The Middle Mill was built in 1886, to replace an older building that had been destroyed in a fire. The Middle Mill is a paper mill, and it has changed several times over the years as new technological breakthroughs emerged. The mill was almost forced to shut down in the 1960s, but was saved by the local mill Foundation, who restored the mill, and now operate it on a not for profit basis.
