The New Lekkerland polder in Kinderdijk had a tiered drainage system using two mills, known as the High Mill and the Low Mill. The High Mill was built in 1740, and is still standing today, although it has had several changes made to it. The mill is still in operation today. The Low Mill, which was built in 1761, has remained largely unchanged. The view of the two mills is quite spectacular, and a popular subject for paintings of the area.
