The Stevenhofjesmolen was built in 1797, to replace an older mill that was destroyed by a fire earlier that year. The mill was originally used to drain the 150 hectare Stevenshofjespolder, which stood between the villages of Wassenaar and Leiden. The mill was bought by the Rhineland Mill Foundation in 1976, and restoration work began in 1987. Today, the Stevenhofjesmolen is open to the public. Guided tours of the mill can be arranged upon request.
