The first Stadsmolen, or ’town mill’ was built in 1644 to drain the Boshuizerpolder. The mill was converted into a pelmolen, for stripping the husks from barley and other grains, during the early 18th century. Since then, the mill has had several owners. Most recently, the mill was bought by the town, and is now used as a water mill, to pump water into the nearby gardens. The mill can be ran using a diesel engine, or on wind power.
