The Spengense Mill is a traditional ’wipmolen’ wind mill in the town of Kockengen. It was built in 1841 to replace an older mill which had been burned down. After a failed experiment with a new design using a direct internally driven paddle wheel, the mill was rebuilt to the design seen today. The mill was in active use until 1962, and was sold to the Utrecht Mill Foundation in 1963. The mill is open to the public on Saturdays, with appointments available for other days.
