The Marendijkmolen was built in 1735, and is the oldest remaining working mill in the town of Leiden. The mill was used to drain the Maredijkpolder until 1970. In 1983, the Marendijkmolen was restored. The mill is now owned by Leyden County, and is ran by a team of three millers – Philip Pijnnaken, Joram Wijling, and Thomas Hoogervorst. The Marendijkmolen is open to the public, and tours of the mill are available by appointment.
