The Loenderveense Mill was built in 1652, to replace a centuries old mill that had previously served the area. The older mill was not efficient enough, and the Loender Veen polder had gradually turned into a swamp. The new Loenderveense Mill was much more effective, and dried the land out, reclaiming valuable farm land. In 1990 the mill was bought by the Utrecht Mills Foundation. The mill is open to the public, although it is best to call to make an appointment before visiting.
