The Geological Museum and Educational Center is located in the old toll booth on Hilversumseweg in the town of Laren. The museum was founded in 1999, and is ran by a group of around 50 volunteers. The museum is devoted to the study of science and geology, and includes a collection of items donated by the family of amateur geologist Lucas Hofland, who had been an avid collector of items related to local geology throughout his life.
