The Fries Museum is a museum devoted to the region of Friesland. It was founded by a society established in the 19th century to develop interest in the language and history of Friesland. The museum explains the history and development of Friesland from prehistoric times through to today, and also looks at the Frisian resistance following the Nazi invasion. There is an array of photographs, memorabilia and propaganda from WWII on display. Another exhibition of interest is one on the local hero Mata Hari.
