Fort Spion is an old fort that was originally a part of the New Holland Waterline. The fort was constructed during the early 19th century, and served as an important part of the country’s defence until 1940, when it was officially closed down. The New Holland Waterline ran from the Zuiderzee to the Biesbosch, and included 68 forts. Today, Fort Spion has been converted to a camp site, and visitors can spend the night there before moving on to explore the rest of the New Holland Waterline.
