The Abdij van Rolduc complex is located just outside of Kerkrade. It was founded by a young priest named Ailbert, who came to the town in 1104. The building that stands on the site today is mostly from the 16th century, although a small 12th century church has been preserved, complete with frescoes and a fine mosaic floor. The crypt contains the relics of Ailbert, which were brought back here from Germany, where he died.
