The Zwartenbergse Mill was built in 1889, to replace an older mill that had been destroyed in a fire the previous year. The mill was used to drain the 385 hectare Zwartenberg Polder unil 1956, when a diesel engine took over the husbandry of the polder. Since then, the mill entered a state of decay. The mill is currently being restored, and will open to the public again once the restoration work has been completed.
