The Windmotor Hauwert is a relatively modern windmill located on the outskirts of the town of Hauwert. The mill is a drainage mill, and it was originally used to drain the Sluispolder. Today, the mill is owned by the Sluispolder Mill Foundation. The Windmotor Hauwert was built to a design known as the ’U.S. Wind Engine’ – this design became popular in the Netherlands during the first half of the 20th century, and is quite a common sight in North-Holland.
