The Welgelegen corn mill was built in 1849 by Looman of Deventer, for the miller H. H. Cook of Almelo. The Welgelegen corn mill is the last remaining mill out of a series of seventeen that had served the town of Heerenveen. The mill is now owned by Heerenveen County, and is now being ran on a voluntary basis to provide flour to local bakeries. There is a small store in the mill that sells traditionally produced flour, muesli, and other goods. The mill is open to the public every Saturday.
