The Van Abbe Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art. The museum opened in 1936, and has built up a collection of over 2700 items, including works by renowned masters such as Picasso, Chagall, Weiner, and McCarthy. The museum has recently been renovated, and the Oudbouw (old building) now plays host to a number of temporary exhibitions, with the Nieuwbouw (new building) showcasing the main collection and the ’Living Archive’ documentary exhibitions, which are based on the museum archive.
