The Phoenix is a Dutch ’stellingmolen’ wind mill in the town of Ellewoutsdijk. It was built in 1934, to replace an older, smaller mill which had been destroyed in a fire. The Phoenix was used as a grain mill for just ten years, before it suffered heavy damage during the Second World War. It was dismantled two years later, and eventually converted into a home. The Phoenix was one of the last mills of its kind to be built in the Netherlands for economic reasons (as opposed to historical ones). Even in it’s partially dismantled state it has a unique and impressive appearance.
