The Molecaten is a historic paper mill in the town of Hattem. It was one of the first paper mills on the Veluwe river. It was built in 1596, and a second water mill was built nearby in 1800. The mill was damaged in a fire in 1857, but was rebuilt as a corn mill. Between 1918and 1940 the mill produced electricity for the castle. In 1967, the mill workings of the mill were restored, and in 1996, the mill was sold to the AMEV insurance company. The mill is open to visitors on Sundays, and tours can be arranged on other days by appointment.
