The Meervogel was built in 1801, and was one of two mills in the Garrelsweer area. The mills served a large area of land known as the Hoeksmeersterpolder. The other mill was demolished in 1913, and replaced with a diesel powered motor, and then later an electric pump. The Meervogel mill was restored in 1980, and is now ran on a voluntary basis. Tours of the mill are available every Saturday afternoon, with visits possible on other days if you make an appointment.
