The Hope Mill was built by GJ Winterink in 1888. It is a small corn mill. In 1902 he added a 5 horsepower steam engine, which was later converted to a diesel one, and then to an electric motor. The mill was badly damaged during the second world war. In 1979, the mill was sold to the town, and in 1981, extensive restoration work was carried out. The mill is now in working order, and is used to produce flour. The mill is open to the public each Saturday, and tours are available on other days by appointment.
