The Hazewind was built in 1833 for Bernier Lucas Homan. The mill stayed in the Homan family until 1947, when it was sold to Mr. E. Grevinge for the sum of 4,000 Guilders. At that point, the mill had been idle for almost 11 years. Grevinge restored the mill, and it was re-opened in 1949. The mill was not originally called The Hazewind – that name was chosen following a contest to re-name the mill after a major restoration project in 1964. The Hazewind is one of the oldest remaining corn mills in the Drenthe province.
