The Schoonoord country house is located on Houtmanpad in the town of Haarlem. It was built sometime during the 19th century. There were many similar houses built by rich city-dwelling families, who would use them as summer homes to escape outbreaks of disease caused by over-crowding and waste filled canals. Only a handful of these homes remain. The Schoonoord is now considered to be a national monument, and a fine example of 19th century architecture.
