The Provinciehuis, also known as the ’Welgelegen’ Pavillion was built in the 18th century, under the orders of a Scottish banker called Henry Hope. The design is believed to be one of Trinquetti’s but this is not known for certain. The building has a rich history, and people such as Lodewijk Napoleon and Sophia Wilhelmina of the House of Orange-Nassau have held their courts in it. The Provincial Board of North Holland has resided in the building since 1930.
