The Polderhuis in Hoofddorp was built in 1913, and was used as a place for the board of the Haarlemmermeerpolder to meet about water and floods. It was designed by Foeke Kuipers, and the style is a tribute to 17th century Dutch classical architecture. Before the building of this site, they would meet in Haarlem, but the location was changed to the heart of the polder after the building of railways in the area in 1912. In 2005, the Polderhuis became the property of the Rhineland, and was leased to the town of Haarlemmermeer, who use the building for socially useful goals.
