The Scheepvaart en Niemeyer Tabacksmuseum (Northern Maritime and Miemeyer Tobacco Museum) is housed in two medieval buildings. The main sections of the museum display models, instruments, charts, and paintings that examine the history of Groningen’s shipping industry. The topics include trade, inland waterway transport, life at sea, shipbuilding, fishing, and whaling. The other part of the museum looks at Holland’s involvement in the tobacco trade, with a variety of items related to tobacco usage over the centuries.
