The Nieuw Leven mill was built in the early 17th century to serve the 680 hectare Wogmeer polder. The mill was decommissioned in 1948, after having suffered damage during the Second World War, The Neuw Leven mill was replaced by an electric pumping station a few years later. The mill was in a very poor condition by 1975, and was demolished. In 1980, the West Frisian Mill Foundation rebuilt the mill in its current location.
