The Martinikerk in Groningen is a church with a long history. Some of the oldest parts of the church go back to 1180, although much of the building is more modern, having been rebuilt in the 15th century. The nave was redone in Gothic style to match the choir that was added long after the original construction. The paintings in the nave have been carefully restored, and there are beautiful frescoes in the clerestory, including a series of eight which depict the story of Christmas.
