There have been three different mills in the location where the Hooglandse Mill stands today. The first one was built in 1572, and was destroyed in a flood. The second one was destroyed by a fire in 1803, and the Hooglandse mill was built shortly afterwards to replace the old, burnt down mill. The Hooglandse mill served as a drainage mill for the Hollouw polder until 1947, and was owned by the village until 1953. Restoration work was carried out on the mill in 1994.
