The Hoofdwacht, or, ’Main Watch’ is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Haarlem. It was used in the 14th century to house the city’s council. It’s name is derived from the city watch, who used the building in the 18th century. The building now houses the ’Vereniging Haerlem’ – which is the town historical society. The building is a historic monument, and can be viewed from the outside, but is not currently open to the public.
