The Elderinkshuis was built in 1783. It is the only historic house in Enschede that survived the fire which swept the town in 1862. The Elderinkshuis currently houses the Van Deinse Instituut, which is a merger between the Oudheidkamer Twente (or, antiquities’ room) and the Twente Akademie. The Van Deinse Instituut holds an interesting collection of items including paintings, portraits, and textiles.
