The Hague City Historical Museum, just north of the Mauritshuis, is located in a Neoclassical Mansion that was originally home to the city’s main militia company, who went by the name of ‘The Archers of St Sebastian’. The museum focuses on the history of the country in general, and Hague in particular. The collection is quite varied, and includes a number of paintings by Jan Steen, and some works by his father-in-law, the landscape painter Jan van Goyen.
