The Grote Kerk is located on the edge of some fields just outside of Edam. It is the largest three-ridged church in Europe, with an interesting Gothic structure, and a very short, stubby tower, which was reduced to its current height after a lightning strike in 1602. The church has a wealth of stained glass windows dating back to the 17th century. The windows feature both religious and historical designs. The church is also host to a large antique organ.
