Groet Windmill
Hargerweg 12, 1871 PJ Groet - Netherlands

Map

The Groetermolen is a traditional windmill located in Groet. It is located about 5 miles from the center of the town, and is a low-sailed windmill which was constructed in 1890. The town has had windmills since the 16th century, however the mill that is in place now is more modern as the first windmill constructed on the site was destroyed by a fire, and the second was struck by lightning. Windmills are very important to Groet, as up until 1977, the polders were drained using wind power. Today, an electric pump is used instead.
