The original Gitstappermolen was built in 1377 as a small, wooden corn mill. In 1750 the mill was rebuilt with a stone superstructure, and was modified so that it could save the oil from oil seeds. After the first world war the oil mill was removed, and only the corn stones were left behind. The mill was idle for many years, but was saved when the former town mayor set up the Friends of the Gitstappermolen Foundation to raise funds for essential repairs. The mill is open to the public.
