The Geesina is a non-working corn mill in the town of Groenekan. The mill was built in 1853 by the Van Elven family, and was sold to A. L. Schuurman. At this time the mill was called ’De Groen Kan’, which translates to ’The Green Can’. In 1934 the mill was decommissioned, then in 1941 it was restored and give the name ’Geesina’. The mill fell into disrepair again, and was bough by the Utrecht Mills Foundation in 1998. Restoration work began in 2001, but was plagued with problems, and has not yet been finished.
