The ’Fort bij Hoofddorp’ is located near the Geniedijk in the town of Hoofddorp. The fort is one of several buildings that make up the Defence Line of Amsterdam. The line was constructed over a period of around 40 years – from 1880 to 1920. The fort is now a monument listed under the Unesco Heritage scheme. It is not open to visitors, however it is interesting viewing, and is located close to many other buildings that are also a part of the defence line. Together, the buildings give an interesting perspective on Dutch history.
