The De Hoop mill in Hellendoorn was built in 1854, and was used to grind grain for the bakers and farmers in the town. In 1937, the mill was decommissioned, and only used for storage, as the milling was done in a neighbouring electric mill. The condition of the mill deteriorated, and in 1973 it was sold to the town for the symbolic amount of 1 guilder. In 1979, the mill was restored, and since 1985 it has been used by a local craft miller. The mill has a shop which sells flour, and guided tours of the mill are given regularly.
