The ’De Hoop’, or, ’The Hope’ windmill, is located on the outskirts of the town of Garsthuizen. It was built in 1839 by the Hoving family of mill makers from Middelstum. The mill is quite large, with a flight of 2.1.7m. It is currently used as a teaching mill for the training of volunteer millers. The mill stands next to a traditional millers house and barn. The Hope mill is open to the public every Saturday, with visits possible on other days if a small fee is paid.
