The De Hommel windmill is located in the most southern part of the town of Haarlem. It is a working mill – it was once used to pump ground water back into the river to keep the land, which is below sea level, dry and safe. Visitors can make an appointment to tour the mill and see it in operation. The mill is often called ’the Bumble Bee’ by local residents, because of its appearance.
